I am looking forward to hearing about your experiences with rats. How do you protect stored gear? How can you practically check gear for rats before loading? What have you found that really works for you?

We don't have the greatest data on the extent of rat spread in Alaska. If you have seen rats in places other than those on our home page map, let us know. Also, we don't know why rats aren't in some obvious places like Anchorage or Kodiak Island other than in town. If you have information on that fill us in.

In the outreach work I have done in the past few months I have learned that fishermen, boat owners and harbor masters have either never had rats and can't imagine it happening to them or they have had some really bad experiences with rats. You two groups need to be talking to each other.

The goal here is to protect Alaska's wildlife from introduced non-native rats (and mice too). In doing that we will also protect ourselves, our industry and our towns. So - let's help each other.
